Anthony Burn is a British artist who lives and works in Suffolk. He has been making art for more than fifty years. While it has never been his full time occupation, art has always been more of a compulsion than a hobby.
He has worked in a variety of styles using a number of different media, but more than any other, he has always been drawn to the abstract and that is reflected in the majority of his work.
When not making art, he likes to write and has a number of books to his name.
Crossing Lines, as the name suggests, blurs the boundaries between Digital Art and traditional Printmaking.
With a background in graphic design, it is almost inevitable that my art starts on a computer screen where I can experiment with, and adjust, images before committing them to paper.
Once satisfied, I convert the designs to silk screen stencils (one for each colour) and then hand-print them onto paper.
While I enjoy the complexity of digital art, I really like the unavoidable inconsistency of hand-printing, which makes each piece unique and original.
I’m very grateful to Ni Gooding at Cut Editions for his technical assistance and for the use of his screen printing studio.
This is a small selection. You can see the full collection here.
I have experimented with a number of styles over the years. From pencil drawings, through acrylics, digital art, plywood carving and photography to print making, my aim has always been to not only create originality but to make art that is aesthetically pleasing.
I have been particularly influenced by the Color field and Minimalism of Mondrian, Matisse and Rothko as well as the playfulness of Escher.
I especially enjoy art that is found within everyday objects or unlikely sources, as are often depicted in the Pop art movement.
